Neurodivergent Profile Assessments

Finding clarity about your brain and how you experience the world can be life-changing. Whether you’re looking for confirmation, deeper self-understanding, or documentation for accommodations, our assessments are designed to meet you where you are. Unlike traditional testing, this approach is neurodiversity-affirming, identity-centered, and focused on the whole person. Every profile integrates validated measures with your lived experiences, so the results feel meaningful.

Packages

We offer three levels: Brief, Expanded, and Comprehensive to match different needs, goals, and levels of detail. The difference between them is in the depth and time commitment, not the quality or validity of the findings. Any diagnoses offered are based on established criteria from the DSM-5-TR and ICD-11. At the same time, we recognize the limitations of these systems and integrate a neurodiversity-affirming approach that centers your lived experiences.

*A computerized attention assessment that measures sustained attention, timing, and impulse control. It provides objective data (e.g., information processing, performance under distractors) that complements interview and questionnaire findings. This may be required in some accommodation settings.

All assessments can be paid in installments or in full, with reduced-rate and pay-what-you-can options available for those who need financial assistance.

Assessments may include formal diagnoses when clinically indicated. However, there is no guarantee that outside providers, schools, workplaces, or institutions will recognize or accept a diagnosis from this process. Requirements for evaluations can vary by setting. We encourage you to check with any providers or institutions in advance to understand their requirements for evaluation or documentation before deciding which profile is the best fit for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this assessment enough to get accommodations or disability services?

Our Neurodivergent Profile Assessments are designed for individuals who are curious about their neurodivergent traits. It helps them to better understand how they experience the world.

For many people, the Brief Profile is enough. If you’re seeking clarity for your own healing, already working with a therapist, or simply want to confirm ADHD or Autism traits without needing accommodations, the brief profile can provide the insight you need. It offers a validated, neuroaffirming interpretation of your experiences and may be all that’s necessary depending on your goals.

The Expanded Profile is a good fit if you’re looking for documentation that can be shared with doctors, therapists, schools, or workplaces. It’s especially useful if you want accommodations but don’t need a full deep dive into complex history, rule-outs, or multiple co-occurring diagnoses.

The Comprehensive Profile is best for those who want in-depth information, such as understanding masking, late identification, complex personal/family histories, or trauma/developmental histories. It is a deep dive into your unique neurodivergent profile. It’s designed for clients who may need documentation for accommodations across different systems, a deeper exploration of co-occurring challenges (e.g. AuDHD), or would like to integrate relevant profiles like PDA.

Note: These assessments do not constitute neuropsychological (cognitive performance and ability included) or psychoeducational evaluations (rule in/out learning disabilities and academic performance). Such evaluations are often required for more formal accommodations including government disability services, like SSI or state disability programs. They typically need documentation showing functional impairment from a full battery of standardized tests. As such, they are also more costly.

Additionally, the College Board and other standardized testing bodies often demand various tests. These may include cognitive ability tests, such as IQ tests, working memory, etc. Or may include academic achievement tests and timed academic tasks. Tests of fine-motor or visual-motor integration are sometimes required as well. We do not provide these types of tests as part of the Neurodivergent Profile Assessment. If you need help deciding what type of assessment or evaluation is right for you, read this article.

Do you take insurance?

Living Lotus Therapy is considered an out-of-network provider. To determine if your insurance will reimburse you for services, you can check with your insurance provider about whether you have out-of-network benefits. You may find that your insurance card indicates “PPO” if you have such benefits.

If you choose to use out-of-network benefits, payment for the assessment is due at the time of service, and you will be provided with a superbill (itemized receipt) to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Keep in mind that reimbursement rates vary based on your insurance plan.

The billing codes used for the assessments are:

  • 90971: Diagnostic assessment portion, which may include a biopsychosocial interview, a review of historical data, questionnaires, and other normed measures.
  • 90834/90832/90837: Feedback session (90847 if including family, or 90846 without client present).
  • 90887: Collateral Services such as coordinating with other professionals (e.g., school, other doctors)or reviewing records

You can ask your insurance provider whether these codes are covered under your out-of-network benefits.

However, it’s important to note that insurance companies may require the sharing of records, which could be used in ways that might not be in your best interest, including for state surveillance or in circumstances that don’t align with your values. You may also want to consider the potential consequences of having a formal diagnosis recorded in medical records, especially if you have concerns about privacy.
If financial concerns are a factor, we also offer payment plans to help make the cost more manageable.

Do you do cognitive impairment or performance tests?

The Neurodivergent Profile Assessments are designed for self-understanding, identity exploration, and healing, not for categorizing people into systems that often weren’t built with everyone in mind.

Cognitive testing (like IQ or psychoeducational assessments) can serve specific purposes, such as school accommodations or disability services, but these tools are rooted in normative, medicalized frameworks. They often compare people to able-bodied standards of “functioning,” which can obscure rather than honor the richness of neurodivergent experience.

At Living Lotus, we intentionally do not include cognitive testing for the following reasons:

  • Liberation over pathologization: You don’t need to “prove” your worth or struggle through standardized scores. Your lived experience is valid, and this process is about reclaiming your story, not fitting into a diagnostic box.
  • Trauma-informed and affirming: Many neurodivergent people have been harmed or misrepresented by assessments that focused only on deficits. I center your voice, not a clinical checklist or algorithm.
  • Accessibility and equity: Full cognitive batteries are expensive and often inaccessible. By focusing on what actually matters for self-discovery (sensory experiences, executive functioning, history, and identity), I’m able to offer assessments that are more affordable and aligned with collective care.

If you are seeking cognitive ability or performance tests (e.g., IQ, working memory, visuospatial skills, etc) we can refer you to a provider who includes them. But if you’re looking for clarity, language, and a deeper connection to your neurodivergent self, this assessment was built for you.

We do incorporate a performance-based task, if indicated, in our Comprehensive Profile package. A CPT is used to support understanding of attention and impulsivity patterns.

What is collateral information?

We don’t exist in isolation. We exist in relationships, families, communities, and systems. That’s why, when doing a Neurodivergent Profile Assessment, it can be helpful to include collateral information from someone who knows you well. This might be a parent, partner, sibling, close friend, or even a longtime therapist. These people often hold important pieces of your story, especially the parts that can be hard to remember or describe yourself.

Collateral information helps round out the picture of how your brain works across time and context. It might include:

  • How you interacted, learned, or coped as a child
  • Stories about your personality, communication style, or challenges
  • Observations of your sensory needs or stress responses
  • How you’ve navigated expectations, routines, or relationships over the years

It is completely okay if no one from your childhood is available. We can include someone who has known you in adulthood, especially if they have seen you in day-to-day life or supported you through change, stress, or growth.

You do not need to figure this out alone. We will help guide you in choosing someone, if anyone, to include in this process. It is not about proving anything. It is about giving space to the people who have witnessed and honored your truth, and including their perspectives as part of your healing and discovery.

How long are appointments?

Appointments for assessments are typically scheduled for 90 to 120 minutes, depending on the individual’s needs and comfort level. The frequency and duration of sessions are also determined based on what works best for the client. We strive to be neurodiversity-affirming in the approach, recognizing that not everyone is able to recall or sit for extended periods of time during an interview as it can be overwhelming and counterproductive for many neurodivergent individuals. The goal is to create a flexible, client-centered process where we move at your pace to ensure comfort and accuracy in the assessment.

Can I stop at any point?

Yes, you can stop at any point during the assessment process. Unlike many traditional assessors who require upfront payment for a full assessment, we charge per appointment. The total fee is broken down into increments based on the number of sessions needed. If additional sessions are required, there will be no extra charges. If you stop the assessment process, you only pay for the sessions you attended.

This allows for greater flexibility and ensures that you are always in control of the process. Consent and comfort are essential, and if at any point you feel the need to stop or adjust the pace, you are welcome to do so without any pressure. The assessment is tailored to your needs, and we want you to feel empowered to make decisions about your own process.

What is a review period?

After your evaluation, you will receive a draft version of your report that includes a clear watermark and does not yet have my signature. This begins a the review period.

The purpose of this review period is to give you time to read through the report at your own pace, reflect on the findings, and sit with any emotions that may arise. Processing an evaluation can be an emotional experience, and everyone integrates information differently.

This stage is meant to be collaborative. Your feedback, questions, and clarifications are not only welcome but essential to ensuring the report reflects your lived experience as accurately and affirmingly as possible.

At the end of the review period, I will incorporate your input (if any), finalize the document, and provide a signed version that you may use with schools, workplaces, or other institutions.
